On April 24, Ambassador Wu Xi met with New Zealand’s Minister for Pacific Peoples, Associate Minister for Courts and Associate Minister of Justice, Hon Aupito Tofae Su'a William Sio. Both sides exchanged views on issues including China-New Zealand relations and regional cooperation.

Ambassador Wu noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China-New Zealand relationship has always been at the forefront of China’s relations with Western developed countries, achieving quite a number of ‘firsts’. At present, China-New Zealand relations are facing new opportunities. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the Boao Forum for Asia, reiterating that China will continue to deepen reforms and open the door wider to the outside world. President Xi also announced a series of new measures to expand opening-up, which will inject new impetus into the China-New Zealand relations. China attaches great importance to its relations with New Zealand and seeks to enhance political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen coordination and collaboration on issues of the Pacific and the Asia-Pacific Region, so as to advance the bilateral relations to a new level.

Minster Sio noted that actively developing relations with China is the consensus of the New Zealand Government and the wider community and that China and New Zealand have always maintained good communication at all levels. New Zealand also desires to work with China to further advance New Zealand-China relations and strengthen dialogues and cooperation on issues in the Asia-Pacific Region including the Pacific.
