Chinese tourists among passengers in serious bus crash in Rotorua, New Zealand

At 11:19 am local time on September 4, 2019, a serious traffic accident occurred in Rotorua, New Zealand. A bus carrying 24 Chinese tourists rolled over, causing 5 deaths and multiple injuries. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

The Chinese Embassy in New Zealand initiated emergency plan right after the accident. A working group from the Embassy led by Ambassador Wu Xi arrived at Rotorua to offer condolences, assist the injured and meet with the local police, requiring for a thorough investigation of the accident and providing follow-up assistance. The Embassy also informed the relevant departments of the New Zealand government about the accident, calling for all-out efforts to save the seriously-injured, investigate the cause of the accident, and provide full support and assistance.
