Ambassador Wu Xi meets with Wellington Mayor Justin Lester

On April 16, 2019, Ambassador Wu Xi met with Wellington Mayor Justin Lester. The two sides exchanged views on a range of issues, including bilateral relations and cooperation between local governments.

Ambassador Wu noted that China-New Zealand relations have maintained good momentum and that regional cooperation is an important driving force in the development of bilateral relations. Wellington has a number of sister cities in China and is actively promoting these local level cooperations by supporting a range of cultural exchange activities, including the Chinese New Year Festival and the Terracotta Warriors exhibition. Ambassador Wu hoped that such exchanges between sister cities would continue to develop. The two sides should use the 2019 China-New Zealand Year of Tourism as an impetus for more cultural exchanges and tourist activity to further advance bilateral relations.

Mayor Lester noted that the Wellington City Council would like to further strengthen exchanges with sister cities in China and expand practical cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism and culture to make more contributions to the development of bilateral relations.
