On July 10, 2018, Ambassador Wu Xi met with New Zealand’s Minister of Education Hon Chris Hipkins. The two sides exchanged views on a range of issues including the development of China-New Zealand relations and cooperation in the education sector.

Ambassador Wu noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and New Zealand, bilateral relations have maintained sound momentum of development with deepened cooperation across the board, bringing tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples. Being an important part of bilateral relations, educational exchanges play a significant role in enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples. China attaches great importance to the development of China-New Zealand relations and stands ready to work with New Zealand to further advance practical cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, so as to deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.

Special efforts should be made to enhance educational exchanges between the two countries and develop a strategic partnership in the education sector to contribute to the development of New Zealand-China relations.
